This month’s CKAN Monthly Live will highlight Open Knowledge Brasil - an organization whose mission is to promote open knowledge. They use and develop civic tools, projects, public policy analysis, data journalism and promote free knowledge in various fields of society. In the political sphere, they seek to make the relationship between government and society closer and more transparent. This webinar will address the state of open data in Brazil and recent actions carried out by OKBR to impact this topic. It will present the organization's main projects, such as pieces of training and tutorials aimed at democratizing access to and use of public data, as well as the development of technologies and methodologies to support open data.

About OKBR
Open Knowledge Brasil (OKBR), also called the Free Knowledge Network is a non-profit, non-partisan Civil Society Organization (CSO), the chapter of Open Knowledge International in Brazil, that has been legally operating in Brazil since 2013. Over the past decade, OKBR has played a key role in promoting open government data, as well as the necessary protection of personal data, through a combination of:
- mobilizing citizen groups to strengthen government oversight
- developing technologies and training materials for public data management
- encouraging the involvement of the free software community in civic technology projects
